THE MAGIC OF DISNEY AND THE MAGIC OF ROTARY

CHILDREN'S HOSPICE HOLIDAYS

Jim and I were treated to a most moving and wonderfully sociable event   organised by Medway  RC  last  Tuesday after returning from Gibraltar. It was buzzing, with I guess  60/70 diners including visiting rotarians and guests, some of whom had taken part in the Children's Hospice Holidays programme.  Ellenor  Hospice staff  also joined  us. IT WAS A CELEBRATION PARTY!!There were several presentations. The joy in the children's faces and the  comments from their parents   on the video clips brought everyone  in the room close to tears.
Without ROTARY these memorable  family experiences would never have taken place.
We have lost a daughter to Cancer so know first hand how memories  are what we hold on to.

Medway Sunlight Rotary and Sidcup Rotary are partners in this project .  Thank you.

WELL DONE ROTARY A MAGIFICENT ACHIEVEMENT

YOU COULD JOIN THEM
.

CONTACT DAVE HATCHER if you would like to here more about this project. Ask for a presentation.

Its fabulous. Well done Rotary. in Medway Sidcup and Medway Sunlight.

At the end of this special evening   Rtn Roger Robinson was surprised  when  he was presented  by Dave Hatcher  with a  Paul Harris Award for   10 years of full on activity working on the Hospice project. He will now continue working as part of the team  but not in a lead role. Well done Roger.
Dave and President  Tony  were busy when photo was taken. Sorry.    Past President Pauline came to give him a hug  so here she is in the photo. mind you Dave might be spotted above!!

A super sociable afternoon. Thank you coolings for the Raffle Prize.

MEETINGS

A  big commitment but  unfortunately necessary.

Regional Meeting in Chelmsford with other DGs

I met with the DGs  in our Region along with our RIBI representative Tony Quinn once more. This was valuable as we identified items which we would like to be discussed at the RIBI Council in 2 weeks time. The preparatory on line meeting happens tomorrow at 8am. This makes the actual meeting smarter as people  travel from Jersey, Ireland and Scotland  to Alcester for it.
I heard that  75% of the clubs in the Essex Area are now entering their projects on  Rotary Club Central which is on the RIBI  website. Aiming for 100% so I hope you will all do this  too. If you need help take up one of the training sessions which will be held in Bromley, Eastbourne and Canterbury. Good access for all!WE CAN REACH 100% TOO

Executive Meeting

The first of the Year with the full team from your clubs and representing you. Your AGs are circulating some of the outcomes of the meeting but I will draw your attention to 3 of them.

1. Bookings  in final stages for ENGAGE in Canterbury. Its going to catch up with us fast only 6 weeks to go 7-9 September
2. Over the Dome with the DG  for Polio  will take place on 23rd  October during the day. Watch out for  sign up in August.
3. Council Meeting Sept 19- We will be sending details of an additional opportunity prior to our Normal Meeting. From 4.30 there will be  presentation/ training chatting, followed by a Buffet and our normal meeting. Watch this space. Information will be sent to your secretaries in August.

Off to Plymouth for a flying visit to see 98 year old mum

This will make you smile

Sat for 2hours at Paddington waiting for my booked train - It would have cost £145 to go earlier if I changed my £26 ticket
Go of 7.45pm train with ticket for coach J Seat 22 No coach J. Was told this was because it was an old train and not the new train  !!!! Not sure of the logic there.
Loudspeaker notice for passengers to use any seats
Sat down
2 mins later  over the loudspeaker NEWS  We are looking for the driver but good news there is one in Reading. (We are in Paddington  and now 8.15)
Laughed  with passenger beside me . During our conversation I  only to find she was a Mrs Parsons (Possibly one of your worst dreams folks  ANOTHER ONE!  )with son called Alex John as is mine. Coincidence eh!
Arrived in Plymouth after Midnight.
Saw mum 9am  Friday morning .
For those who like ships here is a  picture I took from her room of HMS Ocean now sold to Brazil!

Back Friday pm and off to Executive meeting 7.30 Saturday morning
